#25 #Scriptors100BestFilms What happen when a writer-director (Read #AshutoshGowariker) takes years after his debacle (Read #Baazi) to write something what he believes in rather than appeasing others. He makes “Lagaan” with none other than #AamirKhan as his lead actor and producer and proudly takes it to the Academy and also gets Nomination.
Whatever we write about the proud piece of Indian cinema is always less because what you experience on screen is always much much more. The story of Bhuvan and other poor villagers of Champaner of victorian era who plays cricket against Britishers so that they can get rid of their taxes “Lagaan” was definitely a story which made us entertain, laugh, cry and even shout in excitement.
I remember when i watched this movie in a hall back in 2001, the aura was difficult to differentiate between a real cricket match or a movie hall. The spine thrilling music when started playing on the big speakers of the hall, you can’t stop yourself to stand and dance. Dance for the triumph of life on the tunes of #ARRahman with the words of #JavedAkhtar – “Ye dharti apni hai, apna ambar hai re”. I still feel goosebumps whenever i see those crazy villagers who were dancing for life, full of hope and passion.
Termed as one of the best sports film ever made by #Time magazine Lagaan has every thing from characters to music to scale that can define the word “Cinema”. I will strongly prescribe to all movie lovers to watch the documentary “Chale Chalo” that was made on the making of this movie. Even the documentary won Best Documentary in National Awards. Though the number of awards that this film got is innumerable but the biggest was the recognition by academy.
