A few months after the success of Deadpool, Fox announced the production of Wolverine 3 also known as Logan. March 3rd will see the release of Logan, the final movie in the Wolverine franchise directed by James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine as well.
Jackman’s Wolverine has become one of the most distinguishable characters in movie history. A memorable ending such as Logan is excitedly anticipated by fans, and we can only hope it will live up to the hype.
Keeping this in mind, here are some very cool facts about the movie:
- Hugh Jackman’s last appearance as Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman has played the role of Wolverine for the ninth time in the X-Men movie franchise and it is considered that it’ll be his last appearance. Jackman had decided to retire from this iconic role for a variety of reasons. Nevertheless, Jackman has played this iconic role for a record 17 years.
Hopefully, we get a great send off for his character and pass of his adamantium claws to a worthy successor.
- Patrick Stewart’s first major role in a Wolverine movie and his last appearance as Professor X.
Patrick Stewart made his debut as Professor Charles Xavier in the first X-men movie in the year 2000. Over the years, Stewart as Professor X acted as Logan’s companion and guide but hasn’t had any significant role in any of the Wolverine movies. The Logan movie will feature Steward’s first major role in a Wolverine movie, older and weaker and deal with a memory loss.
It’s also reported that it’ll be Steward’s last appearance as Professor Charles Xavier. During a chat with ITV News, Steward stated, “I would imagine that this is probably the end of the franchise for me”.
- Graphic novel.
It is based on a graphic novel. This film draws inspiration from Wolverine: Old Man Logan. This comic issue depicts the story of an old and weary Wolverine in a post-apocalyptic world as shown in the trailer as Wolverine ages.
- Fate of other Mutants?
This is probably one of the unforgettable images in the entire trailer which shows Logan wearing a suit in a graveyard and drinking and a funeral is taking place in the background.
Logan proceeds to Xavier and says that “mutants, they’re all gone”, suggesting that every mutant and every single member of the X-Men family are killed.
This arises a lot of questions as to how they were all killed. How only Logan and the Professor were able to survive. It’s a great way to set the tenor of the movie and raising the curiosity of the audiences.
In the comics, Laura Kinney, X-23 is the clone daughter of Wolverine. The movie will focus on her origins as she is the new and the most vital part of the movie as shown in the trailers.
- Game of Thrones’ star in Logan.
Another Game of Thrones series character joins the X-men franchise. In Logan, Swazi-English actor Richard E. Grant will start as a villainous scientist known as Zander Rice. Richard is known for playing the Braavosian performer Izembaro in the series of Game of Thrones.
Grant is actually the fourth Game of Thrones actor to appear in the X-men movies. The other three actors are Peter Dinklage who plays the role of Tyrion Lannister, played Bolivar Trask in X-men: Days of Future Past,
Edward George “Ed” Skrein who had recurring roles of Daario Naharis, played the villainous role of Ajax in Deadpool
and Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, played the role of young Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse.
- Idea from a video game?
One of the first things many of us notice was how visually similar of the movie’s overall tone to the popular video game “The last of Us”. It is due to the fact that Logan’s likeness to the game’s main character, Joel, who is also trying to save the life of a young girl named Ellie and the father/daughter scenario, both in the movie and the game makes it even more comparable. Both the story starts in a post-apocalyptic world, showing us the similarity between Logan and The Last of Us.
- The Villain.
Boyd Holbrook plays Donald Pierce as the antagonist in the movie Logan. He is the lead of the criminal Cyborg Unit known as The Reavers, bound on destroying the mutants and a fierce enemy of the X-Men.
The character is depicted as a cyborg in the comics and maybe also in the film, as we can see him wearing a cybernetic arm in the Logan trailer.
- Matching combats.
There is a part of the trailer that shows Logan’s and someone else’s claws near his face. We can be absolutely certain that Logan will be facing himself off with other experiments very similar to himself. It would be interesting to see someone as strong as Logan in a matching duel.
