Luv Ranjan and Kartik Aryan are back with their 4th film together- Sonu Ke Tittu Ki Sweety. As crazy as the title sounds, the trailer looks equally whacky and hilarious. In one line, A best friend (Kartik Aryan) is trying to break the marriage of his buddy (Sunny Singh) because he wants to “Save” him from this girl (Nushrat).
When this Luv and Kartik first came together in 2012 in “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” – No one was expecting that this new director and this new face can create such magic among the boys that soon the film will gain a cult status. What actually worked there? Well, one can say hilarious dialogues and nice performances but gaining a cult status is something not in one’s control. It was actually the relatability. Each and every boy of the country who has watched the film somewhere able to connect with at least one or more male protagonists who were badly stuck in a relationship. Not only that end of the day the decoding of “Bro Code” by the director and writer Luv was a bullseye. The subtext that a brother cum friend is always standing beside you whenever you are going to face rejection or heartbreak is something that transcends to the young audience fabulously and who can forget the monologue of Kartik which was one of the most reposted and shared video among the college groups.
They tried a bit different thing from “AkaashVani” but failed. Nevertheless, even Akashvani ha a hint of Bromance Cinema a lot with the supporting characters.
Then they are back with “Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2” which became one of the most anticipated films of 2016. “Problem Kya Hai?” whenever someone says this line, one feels like starting the second monologue of Kartik in PKP2. This installment has taken the “Bromance Cinema” to another level where buddies are not only enjoying each other’s company but also standing up in each other’s thick and thin. It was an instant hit!
And now they are back with a bang. This is the time they are not subtle which I am liking it. The trailer itself says that it’s the Bromance Vs Romance. It’s a tough a fight no doubt but what makes it interesting the fact that Kartik and Nushrat are fighting over the guy which is unusual because in previous 3 films of Luv Ranjan, one thing that was constant that Kartik and Nushrat were paired together. Well, who knows maybe this time also they will end up together? Well, that may be a little predictable if that happens.
Nevertheless, This Bromance Cinema is long due in Hindi Films. We had friend’s films where 3 or 4 guys were going and having fun together but getting the nuances and peculiarities correct is now the forte of this Actor-Director couple. Being a girl it’s a bit odd to like this sort of cinema but believes me, inside their heart, every girl must be asking- How come Luv Ranjan decoded me so easily? Well, the answer must be hidden in his past. Who knows? But what we know is that we can watch this trailer a few more times. My only complaint is that Just the word “Chu**tiya” is overused. I am done with that word.
Lights, Camera, Action! The stage is set and the countdown has begun. With just a few days left for the most coveted award ceremony to be held at the Dolby Theatre, the anticipation seems to be at its peak. So we, at Scriptors, decided to come out with our own list of expected winners. Read more to find out:
The three magical words making its way in almost all the award functions this year- Damien Chazelle’s audacious musical romance ‘La La Land’ should perhaps emerge as the winner in the ‘Best Picture’ category. With a whooping 14 nominations, La La Land seems to be the strongest contender at the Oscars this year. After bagging the Golden Globe, the BAFTA and the Critic’s Choice Award, ‘La La Land’ has its eyes all set on the golden Oscar Statuette. But things might not be as easy as it seems to be. La La Land is receiving stiff competition from Ted Melfi’s ‘Hidden Figures’ (which received the SAG-Best Ensemble) and Barry Jenkin’s ‘Moonlight’ (which received the Golden Globe- Best drama).
Anyone who has watched ‘Manchester by the Sea’ would agree that Casey Affleck’s portrayal of Lee Chandler was inarguably the performance of the year. And with the Golden Globe, the BAFTA and the Critic’s Choice award in his kitty, the possibility of Affleck winning the Oscar seems to be very high. But the recent sexual harassment suit might somewhat affect the judgement. Also the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards might prove to be a game-changer. With Denzel Washington bagging the SAG awards for his outstanding performance in ‘Fences’, there is now a neck-to-neck competition between the two. Ofcourse, the Oscars are not based on the Golden Globe, the BAFTA or the SAG. But there is generally some overlap between the jury of the SAG and the Academy Awards. So, Denzel Washington might just emerge victorious this time! Also, there is Ryan Gosling competing for the best actor award for his film ‘La La Land’. He might not have won any major award till now but given the hype surrounding ‘La La Land’, I would not be surprised if he gets lucky this time!
Expected Winner: Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea)
Emma Stone has been bagging almost all the awards for her bitter-sweet, love-affirming performance in ‘La La Land’. There has been a lot of appreciation from the Academy that what she made look effortless, demanded real talent and precision. Does it mean that she should start preparing her acceptance speech well in advance? Well, not exactly. Her closest challenger, Natalie Portman’s searing anguish in ‘Jackie’ makes her the biggest threat for Stone (Portman was the Critic’s Choice this year). Also giving stiff competition to Stone is Isabelle Huppert, who won the Golden Globe- Best Actress (Drama) for her dark, morally murky role in ‘Elle’. Ruth Negga’s commendable performance in ‘Loving’ might not have won her any award but that doesn’t mean that she is totally out the race for the Oscar.
The nominations for the best supporting actor are:
Mahershala Ali (Moonlight)
Dev Patel (Lion)
Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water)
Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea)
Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals)
With a strong screen presence, Mahershala Ali infuses life into the character of Juan in the movie ‘Moonlight’ and he totally deserves to win the golden statuette. His SAG and Critics Choice win only strengthens his chances of winning the Oscar. His closest competitor, Dev Patel delivers a riveting performance in ‘Lion’ and could pose a threat to Ali’s Oscar dream. Among the other challengers, Michael Shannon was phenomenal but his chances of lifting the trophy are quite feeble.
The nominations for the best supporting actress are:
Viola Davis (Fences)
Naomie Harris (Moonlight)
Nicole Kidman (Lion)
Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures)
Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea)
Viola Davis must have been tired of receiving awards for her pathbreaking performance in ‘Fences’, but we guess the trend will continue this time as well! Her portrayal of Rose Maxson has garnered her huge critical acclaim and we are pretty sure that she is going to bag the golden statue as well. Other challengers in this category include Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea).
Expected Winner: Viola Davis (Fences)
Other Challengers: Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea)
The strongest contenders for the best director category would undoubtedly be Damien Chazelle and Barry Jenkins. Damien Chazelle’s visual storytelling prowess, the simplicity and beauty of the narrative and the grounded emotional moments make him worthy of the best director award. But hold on. Barry Jenkins’ rich and restrained direction in ‘Moonlight’ might pose huge threat to Chazelle. If Damien Chazelle wins this award, he would become the youngest recipient of this award ever!
Expected Winner: Damien Chazelle (La La Land)
Closest Challenger: Barry Jenkins (Moonlight)
Other Challenger: Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge)
P.S: This article is just a prediction. Actual results may vary considerably.
Hrithik Roshan’s much-awaited film Kaabil directed by Sanjay Gupta is a clear cut revenge drama. The trailer is out now and without surprise, it starts with word “Rohan” as the character name of Hrithik. And Hrithik rarely plays a normal person. So he is again, blind but this time he is not blind alone. Yami is also blind and playing the love of his life.
Enters Roy Brothers (Ronit and Rohit Roy) as green eyed villains who definitely do something wrong with this beautiful couple and hence irks the whole revenge drama. As much as the story seems simple on paper, the twist in the story is that how a blind man will take revenge? This leads to impressive action sequences and visuals.
Readers who are not aware of the fact that Sanjay Gupta has immense love for Korean Cinema, Kaabil also looks like a rip off from one of the Korean Film. Yet there are other people who are legally claiming this to be their story. Actor turned writer Sudhanshu Pandey have already reached court for the idea theft against Kaabil’s team.
But this definitely looks like a storm at the box office! Here is the trailer.
In 2012, Vidya Balan comes to the mysterious city of Kolkata as Vidya Bagchi to find out about her missing husband. We all know how it went? We all know that the story we all were thinking was just the tip of the iceberg and Vidya’s character has much more things to tell.
In 2016, Sujoy Ghosh is bringing #Kahaani2 the story of Durga Rani Singh, supposedly the Vidya Bagchi of Kahaani. But this time he also claims that “the truth lies in her story”. This seems like a mother-daughter story entangles with again many layers of truth. This time Arjun Rampal is up for finding the truth.
Though the trailer seems a completely different story but the flavor seems exact same. Now the time will only tell whether Kahaani and Kahaani2 are actually related to each other or they are just two different stories by the same team.
